About Jeff

Transformation is when hearts, minds, processes and skills change — and continue to change — with intent, allowing institutions to increase value while addressing individual and organizational needs

Jeff has spent the last 10 years coaching physicians and medical leaders across the country, specializing in helping health organizations transform their operations to elevate and drive patient, physician and employee engagement. Working closely with medical professionals and executive leadership teams, he helps his clients adopt successful strategies to advance quality of care, fortify their reputation, increase market share, reduce liability risk, improve reimbursement and empower staff to achieve greater personal and professional fulfillment.

Throughout his career, Jeff has drawn on his unique experience as an orthopedic surgeon, a hand surgeon, a physician executive and a licensed and instrument-rated pilot to develop and enhance patient safety protocols and implement impactful job aids like checklists. With his help, his clients have boosted inpatient, outpatient and emergency department patient satisfaction scores, earning accolades like the Press Ganey Summit Award for maintaining scores above the 90th percentile for more than three consecutive years.

Before joining Huron, Jeff trained as an orthopedic surgeon and a hand surgeon in South Africa, Israel and Canada. After attaining board certification, he practiced in Thunder Bay and Burlington, Ontario, before moving to the United States in 1990. In 2010, he joined Huron as a physician coach while serving concurrently as the regional vice president of medical affairs (VPMA) at two community hospitals in northeast Ohio. He joined Huron in 2012, leading the healthcare team as a full-time physician coach and a national speaker. He also maintains a small, active part-time practice in nonsurgical orthopedics, hypnotherapy and medical acupuncture.

Jeff is a member of several professional boards and associations, including the American Association for Physician Leadership, the American College of Healthcare Executives, the Association of American Physicians and Surgeons, the American College of Surgeons, the Ohio State Medical Association, The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, and the American Academy of Medical Acupuncture.

Jeff holds a Bachelor of Science and bachelor’s degrees in medicine and surgery from the University of Witwatersrand, Johannesburg and a Master of Business Administration from Kent State University. He obtained board certification in orthopedic surgery from The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, a medical acupuncture certification from McMaster University, and a hypnosis and hypnotherapy certification from the Hypnotherapy Training Institute.

Over the years, he has frequented panels, forums, and speaking and coaching events, presenting regularly at Huron’s healthcare leadership conferences, partner and nonpartner medical staff meetings, and leadership development institute (LDI) events.
