Spooner Health is a licensed, 25-bed critical access hospital in rural northwest Wisconsin. With services ranging from emergency and inpatient care to outpatient therapy, surgery, infusion, diagnostic imaging and more, Spooner Health’s mission is dedicated to providing high-quality healthcare with excellent service.
Spooner Health’s “commitment to excellence” journey began in 2009 with a Huron | Studer Group partnership. Since then, Spooner Health has operated under five pillars of excellence as a foundation for setting goals and achieving service and operational excellence.
Spooner Health invests heavily in service to patients and customers with continuous staff training, validation and hardwiring of Huron | Studer Group best practices. Throughout the year, staff and managers have the opportunity for professional development with experts from around the country at leadership development institute, employee development institute and regional events. Spooner Health has hosted speakers such as Rich Bluni, Liz Jazwiec, Ridley Barron, David Marshall, Pam Beitlich, Craig Deao and Dr. Wayne Stile. In addition, employees have access to the Huron | Studer Group leadership on demand and bedside nurse platform to keep up to date with the most recent best practices in the healthcare industry.
In 2015, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services rated Spooner Health with a five-star rating, its highest possible, ranking in the top 7% of hospitals nationwide based on how patients perceive their hospital care experience as reported on the Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems survey. In 2018, Spooner Health converted its electronic health record system to Epic®, the largest electronic health record software system. With quality and safety at the forefront of patient care, Spooner Health continues to evolve with the changing demands of the industry for employee satisfaction and patient care.
Spooner Health was proud to be recognized by Press Ganey in 2013 and 2018 with its Guardian of Excellence Award. The Guardian of Excellence Award recognizes top-performing healthcare organizations that have achieved the 95th percentile or above of performance in employee engagement. In 2016, Spooner Health undertook the building of a new facility featuring state-of-the-art equipment, designated space for specialty clinics, many privacy features and a significant amount of natural light and nature-themed decor to encourage healing and a connection to the serene surroundings of northwest Wisconsin. This huge project culminated all the combined efforts of Spooner Health and Huron | Studer Group to create a space that reflected the accomplishments of the collaboration.
