Palmetto Health Richland is a 649 bed hospital and one of the largest and most progressive hospitals in the Southeast. It is part of the Palmetto Health System - a five hospital system located in Columbia, South Carolina.
A great hospital starts with a great community. Columbia is South Carolina's capital and blessed with great diversity and economic strength. The Greater Columbia area's approximately 716,000 residents also benefit from ten degree-granting colleges and universities located in town, including the University of South Carolina, a leading graduate research institution including schools of medicine, nursing and public health. In fact, Palmetto Health Richland is affiliated with the University to provide training opportunities for medical, dental, pharmacy, nursing and other healthcare students. There are also more than 130 public and 70 private schools in the two counties that make up Columbia—Richland and Lexington county. Palmetto Health Richland works with most of them in a series of health education endeavors.

Our Studer Journey
Palmetto Health's work with Studer Group began in 2006. Prior to then, Palmetto Health's results were dipping. We were experiencing poor employee engagement. Our service and clinical quality was dropping, and our image, growth and financial performance were suffering. We partnered with Studer Group in 2006, our CEO reset expectations and we built our launch pad for the future.
- Set a 3 year strategic plan
- Reconfirmed our mission
- Rolled out a new unified mission
- Launched the Leadership Institute
- Rolled out Standards of Behavior
- Adopted a 6 pillar framework
- Adopted an Objective Accountability system
Today, we have experienced remarkable results across all pillars.
- Highest EVER employee engagement
- Highest EVER patient satisfaction
- Highest EVER clinical outcomes
- Strong financials
- And ever-increasing growth
Palmetto Health achieved the highest Employee Satisfaction results in the system's 120 year history and ranked in the top 10% in the Nation.
Palmetto has consistently quarter over quarter trended up in patient satisfaction across all HCAHPS composites.
We have realized that the work we had done since 2006 was really just laying the foundation for the important work ahead – transforming every aspect of the health care experience for our team members, physician partners, patients and guests. Our future is brighter than ever.
