About Franklin Foundation Hospital

Established in 1950, Franklin Foundation Hospital is a 22 bed critical access hospital (CAH) located in the heart of Swamp country - south Louisiana. The vision of Franklin Foundation Hospital is to be the Hospital of choice for our community - where patients choose to seek care, where doctors choose to practice and where the best healthcare professionals choose to work.

Franklin Foundation Hospital wholeheartedly believes that engaged employees and physicians deliver great care and improve clinical outcomes, productivity and patient satisfaction. During the Hospitals' Board of Commissioners strategic planning retreat in 2009, the Board challenged itself and the organization to "Be the Employer of Choice in the Area".

In August 2011, the Board of Commissioners authorized the leadership to partner with the Studer Group. Over the past two years Franklin Foundation Hospital has hardwired the following Must Haves:

Leadership Development Institutes - Franklin Foundation Hospital has held seven quarterly Leadership Development Institutes (LDI). The LDI are used to create a team of Leaders who can be advocates for creating a culture of excellence, review current results and organizational goals, introduce Must Haves, celebrate our success and have fun.

Performance Standards - We rolled out our performance standards which are aligned with the organizations values of compassion, positive attitude, professionalism, knowledge and competency. New applicants are required to review the standards prior to applying for a position within the organization.

Communication Boards  - Using the organizations five pillars – People, Service, Quality, Finance, and Growth – the organization created communication boards to communicate consistent messages and key information to staff and physicians throughout the organization. All departments have communication boards within their departments. Included on the boards are ongoing updates to organizational goals and departmental goals.

Employee Forums - Another tool used at Franklin Foundation Hospital to create alignment and consistency through communication is employee forums. These quarterly forums are utilized so we can provide updates on the external environment. Employee forums are also a good time to celebrate wins, recognize accomplishments and share thank you notes. Sharing wins is a great way to energize staff and remind us why we come to work every day – to make a difference in the lives of those we serve.

During a recent LDI Leaders voted on the many recommendations submitted by staff to name our journey. The LDI participants selected E³ – Exceeding Expectations through Excellence from over 40 superb submissions.

Awards & Accomplishments

Franklin Foundation Hospital is one of the best places to work, not just in the area but the entire country. Franklin Foundation Hospital scored in the 99th percentile for employee satisfaction according to the employee engagement survey, administered in May 2012 by Avatar International, a leader in employee, patient and physician satisfaction assessment and improvement. Additionally, over 88% of the 161 full and part-time employees completed the survey.

Additionally, during this journey Franklin Foundation Hospital has improved their overall HCAHPs scores from the 41st percentile in 2011 to the 97th percentile in 2013. Communication with Nurses, Communication with Doctor's, Discharge Information, Pain Management, Cleanliness, and Quietness all rank at or above the 90th percentile for 2013.
