Build accountability for consistent execution in your organization.
Thomas Edison once said that vision without action is but a hallucination. In other words, we
can say it, but can we do it? I find that in these tough economic times, there is a lot of uncertainty
and anxiety in healthcare. After all, the operating environment is very difficult. Investment
earnings are down. Capital is tight. Bad debt is up. Lay-offs may loom.
As leaders, it’s our responsibility to ensure leaders and employees aren’t paralyzed by anxiety. We
need to give them the tools to succeed and move forward so our organization sustains results even
when times are tough. Fortunately, leaders in healthcare are innovative, creative, and passionate
people who have weathered tough times before.
This issue of Hardwired Results provides you with tools that will create the kind of accountability
that adds dollars to your bottom line through higher revenues and reduced costs. From improving
patient safety (page 2) and reducing RN turnover (page 8) to cutting operating expenses (page 7)
and dealing with difficult doctors (page 5), these case studies demonstrate tactics that work.

presenting at Studer Group’s What’s Right in Health CareSM Conference in Chicago, June 29 to
July 1. Please join me and more than 1,000 of your colleagues for tools you can use right away to
build execution and accountability.
Yours in service,
