DEMONSTRATE EVIDENCE-BASED LEADERSHIP.
In Studer Group's
national learning lab, one of the most promising shifts we've seen
over the last year is active physician leadership in service and
operational excellence. From small hospitals like Pekin in Pekin,
IL to large health systems like Sharp HealthCare in San Diego, physicians
are leading the way.
We notice that this occurs when physicians see
real evidence of change at the organizations where they practice.
They notice that as employee satisfaction rises, for example, there
is less turnover. This directly benefits them. When they are supported
by high-performing nurses, radiologists, and emergency department
staff, there are fewer medical errors and they can serve patients
more efficiently. Malpractice exposure is reduced.
Physicians are keen observers by nature, due to
their professional training. In their patients, they look for patterns
of health and disease. In their leaders, they look for evidence
that they can trust them to create and sustain a practice environment
that consistently supports efficient and quality care. In other
words, they seek evidence-based leadership.
In this issue of Hardwired Results, you will find
a number of specific tools your organization can begin using right
now to reduce leadership variance and provide evidence of your commitment
to physician satisfiers, quality patient care, increased access,
and strong financials.
I am interested in your success. Let me know how
these tools are working for you.
Yours in service,
Quint Studer
