People don't go to the hospital to get sicker; yet that is what often happens. Many states are in the process of making hospital infection rates and other adverse event rates public, so risk reduction is naturally a hot topic in the healthcare industry.
Hospitals and healthcare administrators look for quick fixes—new handwashing programs and other protocol standards that, in theory, should fix a number of the problems. But these programs inevitably fail. Why? Because healthcare organizations simply don’t have the right people, properly trained and in place, to ensure that the policies work.
