We All Have a Purpose

Studer Group believes the beginning of the journey from good to great must start with our values. In this way, we center or balance the Healthcare Flywheel^SM. In health care, we have great purpose, do worthwhile work, and have the opportunity to make a difference. This is our hub.

From here, the first step to creating movement is to connect the dots to our hub so that people are inspired to truly believe they can make a difference. This inspiration allows organizations to implement initial changes. Each nurse, physician, housekeeper, transporter, transcriptionist, marketing executive, computer technician, and administrator in the health care industry is making a difference every day. When we truly understand and feel our purpose in this effort the flywheel keeps turning.

A Studer Group Coach visited a hospital in California and shared a poem (see below) written by a member of the outpatient satisfaction team. Because this hospital had experienced some difficult times, the poem had very special meaning. The hospital used the poem in an awareness campaign to remind staff of the importance of personal interactions. I hope it inspires you, as it did us, to remember that we all can make a difference in health care.

One Voice

Once voice spoke to my inner responsibility,
To realize I can be heard by many,
That the issues I discuss,
The words I use to express myself,
Provide a picture,
About me and where I work.
So, I've chosen to be professionally accountable,
To choose my topics carefully,
To realize not everything I feel should be said.
I want to make a difference.
I want to make the world, or my part of it, better.
I am one voice representing my medical center.
