Is it possible to be a leader in your organization, not get results and still get a good evaluation?
Evidence shows that organizations that have an objective, weighted evaluation process for leaders achieve and sustain results over those that have a subjective or competency based evaluation. So, what metrics do we set to achieve the best outcomes? That's the challenge we posed to our Leadership Development experts: to identify the goals and related action plans used by high performing ED leaders.
After combing through the results of more than 48,000 leaders that maximize our Leader Evaluation Manager™ software accelerator to hold leaders accountable for results, this team identified the highest performing ED's. You can click here to see the goals and 90-day action plans these top performing leaders used to achieve their stellar outcomes. Whether you work in the emergency department on reducing left without being seen, improving volume and door to doc time, or another area, this is a helpful resource to judge whether you're setting the right goals and action steps to achieve sustainable outcomes in your organization.
To receive sample goals for your area or learn more about using outcome based, weighted evaluations for leaders to drive results email Penelope Elebash.

Congratulations to

for being selected as December's Fire Starter of the Month.
South Miami Hospital's reputation as a compassionate, patient-centered hospital, coupled with its exceptional programs in addiction treatment, cardiovascular care, women and infants' health and weight-loss surgery have enticed patients to return for all their healthcare needs.
To help maintain a high level of service and operational excellence, South Miami Hospital enlisted the help of the Studer Group. Six pillars were identified to align the hospital's strategic objectives, People, Quality, Service, Growth, Fiscal and Community Benefit. Implementing Studer principles and tools, coupled with the dedication of South Miami Hospital leaders and staff, have led to the following successes:
- Employee satisfaction and loyalty in 2009 reached the 85th percentile, according to The Gallup Organization
- Employee and nursing turnover reached a three-year low, with only 9.91 percent of employees and 11.57 percent of nurses leaving to work for other companies.
- Patient satisfaction at South Miami Hospital in 2009 reached the target goal of above the 90th percentile in three of the areas surveyed by Press Ganey – inpatient, outpatient and the Emergency Department.
- Outpatient surgery improved its patient satisfaction scores to the 97th percentile in the last quarter of 2009, largely after implementing Studer Group's AIDET process
- By significantly reducing operational costs, South Miami Hospital exceeded the budgeted margin of 0.1 percent and is expected to achieve a margin of 3 percent for Fiscal Year 2009.

Connect to Purpose, Worthwhile Work and Making a Difference
Does your organization follow the 10/5 Rule? Do your employees acknowledge others at 10 feet by making eye contact and smiling? Do they speak to employees and guests at five feet? Are they going the extra "mile" to help with directions?
