St. Vincent Hospital

Green Bay, WI

St. Vincent Hospital is the oldest and largest hospital in Northeast Wisconsin. Licensed at 547 beds, our not-for-profit medical center has been owned and operated by the Hospital Sisters of the Third Order of St. Francis since 1888. It is one of 13 hospitals in Wisconsin and Illinois affiliated with Hospital Sisters Health System.

The mission of St. Vincent Hospital is to carry out the healing ministry of the Catholic Church with respect, care, competence, and joy. Our vision is simple and focused on quality:

The Best Care. Every Patient, Every Time.

Our service area includes Green Bay, Northeast Wisconsin, and nearby Upper Michigan. In addition to providing general acute care, St. Vincent Hospital offers comprehensive services in a number of specialized centers:

  • Regional Cancer Center
  • The Heart Center
  • Regional Emergency Center
  • Regional Pediatric Center
  • Women's Services (including Newborn Intensive Care)
  • Regional Rehabilitation Center
  • The Neuroscience Center
  • The Orthopedic Center

Our St. Vincent "Family" includes 2200 employees, 500 volunteers and 500 physicians. We operate in partnership with our sister hospital in Green Bay – St. Mary's – and with the physician providers of Prevea Health as well as many independent physicians in the community and region.

St. Vincent Hospital was introduced to the Studer Group® Nine Principles® in 2000 when Quint Studer was the featured presenter at a leadership education program. Over the years, we adapted "bits and pieces" of these principles with success "here and there." It wasn't until 2007 that we formally signed on to partner with the Studer Group and made the commitment to hardwire excellence. Since then, we have made significant strides in our quest to be the best. We call what we are now doing to achieve excellence The St. Vincent Way, and we are striving to ensure it permeates all of our actions.

St. Vincent Hospital has just finished a fiscal year that showed our highest ever quarter result in Patient Satisfaction – 96th percentile in the Press Ganey national data base. In addition, we implemented an electronic support services survey that shows the internal customer service results at greater than 80% top box for EVERY department. The Employee Opinion Survey on integration of our mission into daily practice told us that we are equal to or better in every category than the national norm. Profit Margin rose from 4.02% to 6.74%.

Quality clinical care is a "must have" for St. Vincent Hospital and in this past year we reached 90% or better every quarter in Hand Hygiene. Our patient falls have decreased from 3.3 to 2.7 per 1000 patient days. Progress is being made on core measures and improvement was seen in all 8 AMI measures. AIDETSM, hourly rounding, and discharge calls are making a difference for the patients at St. Vincent Hospital.

We are grateful to receive the Fire Starter Award. It's an honor. What's more important, it's a signpost that we are headed in the right direction on our journey to excellence.
